What is the new format of SSM business entities registration number?
  1. This new format for business entities registration number will replace the ​existing registration number in SSM (beginning 11 October 2019).
  2. The new registration number format consists of a 12 digit number comprising of:
    • 4 digits –  the year of business entity was registered
    • 2 digits – business entity code​
    • 6 digits – the registration number sequence
  3. The business entity’s​ code is as follows:

What is the purpose of of the new registration number format for business entities?

It is introduced to replace the various formats of registration numbers generated by the existing system. This would be in line with the Government’s initiative to use single registration format for business entities in Malaysia.

When will the new registration number format be implemented?

​The new registration number format will be implemented on 11 October 2019.

Does the change involve the existing registration number?
  1. All existing companies, limited liability partnerships and businesses will be given a new 12-digit registration number.
  2. Example of how the new registration number is to be displayed is as follows:
    Name : AMS Setia Jaya Sdn. Bhd
    Registration Number : 201901000005 (1312525-A)
What will happen to the existing registration (old) number?

​The existing registration number is still maintained and can be used until further notice.​

How do existing business entities obtain their new registration number format?

​They could obtain the new registration number format from SSM’s portal such as via the e-Search, e-info and MyData services for free from the date of implementation.

Are the business entities allowed to use the existing registration number and when will the usage of the new registration number format begin?

Yes, business entities can still use the existing registration numbers. It can still be used for transactions involving other Agencies as well as on official letters, invoices, signboards and other printed documents. However, the business entities are encouraged to use the new registration number format.

The new registration number format will be applied fully until further notice.

When filing a statutory document /registration at SSM’s service counters, which registration number format should be stated?

Both registration number formats can be stated during submission or lodgement of statutory documents /registration.  It also applies to the covering letter.

Is the certificate or notice of registration issued before the date of implementation still valid?

​​Yes, the certificate and notice of registration is still valid and does not need to be replaced.

What should we do if the third party disputes the validity of the new registration number format?

​​The third party is advised to obtain the letter of authentication from any of SSM’s service counters (except UTC Pudu and Putrajaya).  ​​

Will the information of the new registration number format appear in the supplied corporate information?

​​Yes, once implemented, the printed corporate information will also display the new registration number format.
